Dr. Vickie Bae-Jump and Dr. Makowski awarded an R01 to study endometrial cancer

In 2018, Dr. Bae-Jump (PI) and Dr. Makowski (co-I) were awarded an R01 to examine the systemic and local metabolic changes in patient ovarian tumors and a murine model of serous ovarian cancer and test the effects of a novel biguanide.

Drs. Bae-Jump and Makowski awarded V Foundation Award.

Dr. Vickie Bae-Jump (PI, UNC Chapel Hill) and Dr. Liza Makowski (co-I, UTHSC) were awarded a 3 year V Foundation Grant entitled Metabolic and Molecular Biomarkers of Metformin Response in Obesity-driven Endometrial Cancer in Fall 2017.

Makowski lab moves to University of Tennessee Health Science Center

In 2017, Dr. Makowski was recruited to University of Tennessee Health Science Center to continue her work on immunometabolism in the normal and tumor microenvironment.

Alyssa Cozzo was awarded the 2017 Marci Kramish Campbell Dissertation Award, which recognizes excellence in dissertation research focused on cancer and the population sciences and includes a $5,000 prize.

Chris Kartawira, winner of Region 3b NC Science and Engineering Fair at NCSSM and will go to state competition NC Science and Engineering Fair at Meredith College for a poster entitled “Characterizing the Phenotype of Lean and Obese Bone Marrow-Derived Adipose Tissue Macrophages”
