Congratulations to Amy R. Johnson, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Liza Makowski for winning the postdoc chalk talk competition focusing on her project “The Role of Substrate Metabolism and Macrophage Activation in Obesity” in September at the South East Lipid Research Conference. Dr. Johnson also presented a poster and an invited lecture entitled “Manipulation of macrophage metabolism alters inflammatory status.”
Jillian Hamilton received the North Carolina Dietetic Association’s Outstanding Dietetics Student Award for 2012. She was honored at the NCDA Awards & Recognition Lunch at the NCDA Annual Meeting on April 15th, 2012. Congratulations, Jillian!
Yuanyuan Qin, doctoral candidate, is one of 12 finalists selected for the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) Graduate Student Research Awards competition at the 2012 Experimental Biology meeting in San Diego April 2012. She will participate in an oral competition for a chance to win a cash prize and will present a poster. She has been awarded funds to cover travel costs to attend the meeting. Yuanyuan Qin has been invited to present her work and received a travel award to present her abstract, “Adipose Inflammation Induced by Acute Alcohol Exposure and Burn Trauma” at the Alcohol and Inflammation Research Interest Group (AIRIG) annual meeting in Chicago in November 2011.
